Mutual of Enumclaw Hires New Executives Signaling Commitment to Growth and Excellence
Industry Experts Daniel Guthrie and Hem Chari Join Executive Team
Enumclaw, WA – October 2025 – Mutual of Enumclaw (MOE), a mutual regional insurer specializing in personal, business, farm and ranch coverage in the Northwest, has welcomed two industry leaders to its executive leadership team.
To support its Product Management, Underwriting and Product Execution capabilities, Mutual of Enumclaw has made organizational changes that will take effect immediately. Daniel Guthrie, a tenured insurance industry executive, joins MOE as Chief Operating officer and Hem Chari, a recognized expert from the Tech industry, joins as Chief Information Officer. These changes will allow MOE operations to better focus on the deep operating and technology skills needed to continue its leadership as one of the strongest regional insurers in the Northwest.
As a result of this change, the Product Management and Underwriting functions will no longer be aligned solely by line of business. MOE now has established separate business units responsible for each of these functional capabilities across all three lines of business: Personal Lines, Commercial and Farm. This new structure positions MOE to operate with greater focus and accountability, ensuring they deliver on strategic and financial goals.
Guthrie joins Mutual of Enumclaw as Vice President of Product Operations and Chief Operating Officer. Daniel brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the insurance industry, including senior roles at Kemper, Nationwide and
Allstate. He has led large teams across product management, underwriting and distribution, and operational transformation. Most recently at Kemper, Daniel oversaw more than $5 billion in direct written premium and led strategic initiatives that delivered sustained improvement in both growth and profitability.
“Daniel brings both deep and broad experiences that have prepared him well for driving the transformation we are undergoing here at MOE,” said Mutual of Enumclaw President and CEO Robert Otis, “We have restructured our Product and Underwriting functions to focus on building deep and current capabilities that ensure we have the best processes and products while deepening our relationships with our members and our distribution partners, This increased focus is critical, and Daniel has long history of developing and enhancing those capabilities in our industry.”
Chari joins MOE as the Chief Information Officer. He has delivered more than $50M in operational savings and EBITDA improvements through enterprise digital transformations across Fortune 500 and private equity environments. He has proven transformational results including consolidation of systems, operational cost reduction and productivity gains at his previous positions as Global Chief Information Office at GE Power; Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Videojet Technologies; and Chief Digital and Information Officer at Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope.
“MOE has a rich history of recognition for its innovative technology solutions. Today’s environment allows us to do even more, and Hem’s rich background with modern technologies and the execution of those will allow MOE to leap forward,” Otis continued. “We’re investing in new technologies to ensure we are meeting the needs of our agents and our members in the most efficient and effective ways.”
With these changes, MOE is also announcing leadership changes that will support this new structure:
Steph Grobin has been promoted to Vice President, Underwriting and Development. Steph has a deep background in MOE lines of business and has led the Commercial and Farm lines of business with great success, adding structure to underwriting and product management skills. She also successfully manages several large new product initiatives.
Jeff Gardner continues to lead Sales and Distribution with this group now reporting up to Daniel Guthrie.
“Our financial strength and our 127-year commitment to the Northwest provides agents and customers unique partnerships they can’t get from other insurers. Our ability to attract and retain top talent is a testament to our abilities and our commitment,” Otis added.
